Saint John's celebrates Living Stations of the Cross

Every year on Good Friday Catholics remember that Jesus died on the cross for them.  This year for the second time parishioner's at the Church of Saint John the Evangelist in Goshen, NY held a living Stations of the Cross.  The event took place on the church grounds at about 11:30 am.  Many hours of preparation and hard work resulted in a beautiful prayer service. Approximately 50 people were in costume playing an array of biblical characters from townspeople to Jesus.  The man who played Jesus was covered with artificial blood.  During certain  parts of the Stations of the Cross more artificial blood was added to imitate
the sufferings of Jesus' passion.  The highlight of the event was Jesus' crucifixion   A lot of detail was placed into the portrayal of the crucifixion.  A platform was built to simulate Golgotha.  The man playing Jesus was tied to the cross lifted in the air and placed into a special slot in the platform.  After the crucifixion the man playing Judas' was seen hanging from a tree.  90% silver half dollars were used to represent the silver coins for which Judas betrayed Jesus.  As Judas was hanging the coins were dropped.  This event was a spiritually powerful one for those present prayed and reflected on the Passion of Jesus Christ.
